I find the castles of the crusaders particularly interesting. In Petra, Jordan, there are quite photogenic ruins..
..whereas Crac des Chevaliers in Syria is still extremely well preserved..

One of the more fascinating castle builders was Ludwig II of Bavaria , Wagner's sponsor.. his castles here.. The most famous, of course, is Neuschwanstein; see it live, from webcams..
And finally, I might add that my ancestors had a castle. Here it is.. my brother visited it, at the height of the 'troubles' in Northern Ireland. He said half the town of Enniskillen has our surname. Unfortunately, his wife had the same name as an IRA fugitive, and was detained and searched..
