GREAT EARLY HORROR MOVIES
When it comes to horror movies, I have to admit, the slice and dice stuff hardly gives me a chill. I'm much more affected by the atmosphere of movies such as the following classics..
Nosferatu - Max Schreck was certainly the UGLIEST screen vampire! More on this F.W. Murnau landmark..
Vampyr , Dreyer's version of the legend.. discussed intelligently here..
The same site takes an in depth look at Wegener's 'Der Golem'
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - can you say 'German Expressionism?' More on Wiene's classic..
Finally, a fun site, lots of effects - 'Pictorial History of Horror Movies'
One might say that the true subject of the horror genre is the struggle for recognition of all that our civilization represses and oppresses.
